I have been tutoring students since I was a kid myself giving me 30+ years of experience. I used to walk to younger kids' homes when I was just 14 and tutor them in math. I believe it is my gift. Throughout high school and college, I still tutored. When I entered college at Wake Forest University, I intended to be a physician. But, my first mathematics course set me straight and led me to what I was always supposed to be - a teacher.
I taught math in Texas and I trained teachers as an instructional specialist. While earning my Master's Degree, I performed education research on student outcomes and predictors of academic success. I also taught both middle and high school math in the Chapel Hill schools in NC.
I always taught students who were struggling with math - I had to SELL math to them. My style was outside-the-box but it worked - it involved art, movement, music and more. We celebrated being capable learners everyday.
Recently, I earned my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction in Mathematics from the University of Louisville. I served as an adjunct professor in the College of Education and Human Development at UofL. I re-ignited my teaching career and currently teach at North Oldham High School.

I started babysitting in my early teens and knew I wanted to work with children. In high school, I was part of a Big Brother/Big Sister program with our elementary school. It was my first real experience as a mentor and I loved it. Through college at Bloomsburg University and graduate school at New York University, I sought out opportunities to continue in a mentor role. At NYU, I was a graduate assistant residence hall director. This allowed me to help undergraduate students on their path through college.
I began my career as a school counselor at a high school in New York in 1997. Working with students in grades 9-12 on their academic and personal growth and post high school plans. In 2002, I took on the role of School Counseling Chairperson at my current school. I continue to help students as they progress through high school by organizing college visits to our school, financial aid programs and college information nights. I have 29 years experience in guidance counseling.
I have been involved with multiple professional organizations related to college admission counseling, including NYSACAC and NACAC. For the past few years, I have coordinated a regional college fair including 200+ colleges/universities.
